This design only seems fitting to be the last of seven designs we release because it is about the “tulip mania”. One of the most interesting stories about tulips.
You might be wondering: “What is ‘tulip mania’?” (Tulpen-Wahnsinn auf deutsch)
And back then tulips were traded on a marketplace just like the stock exchange today. But not the tulip itself, the blooming flower, but the tulip seeds, so-called “tulip bulbs”, were traded.
But why were they so popular?
Because tulips grow in special colors and patterns.
Many of them were extremely rare and therefore extremely valuable. Of course, you could never know what tulip bulb would grow into which tulip, but it had the potential to grow into a special one and therefore become a valuable flower. And people started trading tulip bulbs like crazy, always trying to get more and more money for their bulbs, promising that their bulb would grow into a rare color or pattern.
The height of this tulip trade bubble was the time period which was later named “tulip mania” which happened in the years 1636 and 1637.
The most famous story is that one single tulip bulb was traded for a house.
We at Zeitgeist Recycling Studio are definitely crazy about tulips now, too.
Because we were inspired by the insanity, we incorporated crazy colors into this last design.
We hope you enjoy this collection.
